Eat Some Of These At University
Monday, March 8th, 2010Moving To University is a big step into the unknown and when it comes to cooking skills it has to be said, not many students are experts in it. Ready mealswill not do you any good at all and there are so many things out there that you can buy for a cheaper price that will work to do you some good..
Starches
Getting enough of those starchy points is very important indeed and there are several options you should take when it comes to these foods.
Porridge is very good for you and considering you are able to get a lot of porridge for a very affordable price nowadays it can be well worth having this for breakfast everyday. Believe it or not you can add a number of things into the porridge from chocolate to fruit.
There are literally hundreds of ways to put a potato onto a plate and this is why it is a great option to go with. Baked potatoes are very cheap indeed and you can have so many fillings that are cheap too like tuna, beans, cheese and prawns. You can also do so many things with them such as boil, roast, Sautee or fry them which means you can add a bit of variety to the mix.
Fruit and Veg
Whilst it is very unlikely that you will ever get your 5 a day at university there a number of fruits and vegetables out there that are relatively cheap to buy. Apples, onions and carrots are all very affordable and fruit juice will help towards that 5 a day too.
Protein
Protein is very important too and if you thought beans on toast was unhealthy you would be wrong as without the sugars and salt beans are great protein.. Try and cook a roast once a week for you and your roomates.
So although you cannot afford private catering and it is way too early to think about things like wedding caterers you can get yourself some decent tasting food.
