Fresh Air Fund Camp
November 11th, 2009One out of four school children in the U.S. has vision problems, and 86% do not get their vision checked before age 12.
Many Fresh Air children do not have access to affordable vision care. Glasses break, are too expensive to replace, or are never prescribed in the first place. And often as a result, children’s performance in academics, sports and activities suffers.
For the fifth summer in a row, OneSight offered to bring their traveling optical clinic to all five Fresh Air Fund camp.
Together with OneSight’s Vision Vans – and a team of local doctors and volunteers, OneSight provides free eye exams and eyewear to thousands of children in need each year.
This summer at Fresh Air camp, OneSight’s staff screened 3,295 children and counselors, gave 1,757 eye exams, and made 1,629 pairs of glasses, with 1,458 of them on-site and 171 specially driven in. The team stayed at Camp Hayden-Marks for two camp sessions, to make sure every child who needed the gift of sight was screened.
Although you might think some children would be reluctant to be prescribed glasses, most of them are delighted. They’ve been missing out on the world around them for too long. (Being able to pick out their own frames helps, too.)
Our friends at OneSight told us about a boy at Camp Mariah who ran to the Vision Van before the team had even begun setting up in the morning.
“You guys have the van, right,” he said, clapping and jumping up and down. “The one that I can get glasses from?”
We thank OneSight and you, for helping inner-city children receive the services they need.

February 4th, 2010The EyeClops Mini ProjectorFrom Jakks Pacific. Play Virtually Anthing From Video Games To DVD’s. Take Anywhere. View Them As A Big Screen Projection
February 8th, 2010Features & Specifications
The EyeClops Projector from toymaker Jakks Pacific is a minature digital projector that is compact enough to take with you wherever you may go. The device is designed to be portable, running on on standard D-cell batteries if you choose or can be run by the mains using an AC adaptor plug. The projector has three composite inputs that allow it to connect to a wide range of devices.
The EyeClops Mini Projector In Use
One of the first things you’ll notice about the EyeClops Mini-Projector is it’s size. Designed to be easily portable, this thing is small! Portability alone is nice, but is even nicer if you can use the particular media format that is present, say when you’re round at a friends and play one of his video games. The Jakks EyeClops Projector supports a broad range of modern day devices such as video game consoles and DVD players due to it’s audio/video jacks, making it as flexible as it is portable.
Aimed at kids eight years or older who want to play their favorite video game on a big screen, or to see their favorite movies from the convenience of their room, the Jakks Projector can be pointed at any flat surface including the ceiling. I know I would have found watching TV on the ceiling particularly cool when I was a kid! The Jakks Projector system also features it’s own speakers. These are certainly loud enough to be heard if not home-theater quality.
Brightness is the big week point of the Jakks EyeClops Mini-Projector. In daylight conditions the device performs quite poorly. For a good image, all light sources should be fully covered. When there is too much external light in the room the contrast will be poor and the colors faded and washed out.
The Jakks EyeClops Mini-Projector does a much better job when the lights get switched off. Sure you won’t ever mistake a EyeClops Mini Projector stystem for a fully-blown home theater , but when you consider the device sells for less than fifty dollars and is designed for children, to suggest it is not great value would be unreasonable.
When you consider that the EyeClops Mini Projector has a lot that’s cool about it and is selling at an extremely attractive price, some image issues are excusable. If you go into the purchase, not expecting the home theater quality of a system costing thousands of dollars, you will do just fine. Remember it is sold as a child’s toy.
Summary
The Jakks Projector System is good value and not too expensive for a kid’s toy. I recently saw it for sale on Amazon for less than fifty dollars and it is still in the Top Ten Christmas Toys 2009 list. Considering the coolness and versitility of this toy it’s definitely a value buy.
Child Support Laws Opinions
February 8th, 2010Child support in each state of America follows its own laws. Although, these laws are slightly different, they share one thing in common, that every non-custodial parent must provide financial support and health benefits for their child/children. Financial support helps in many ways. First, when the mother/father are struggling and unable to provide 100% for their young ones, the child support payments will provide them extra cash to help cover any expenses. Expenses such as food, utility bills, medical, and clothes. Single parent raising children can be tough, that is why it is important to have child support paid by the non-custodial parent. Health coverage can also be very expensive, especially for children.
Some parents who are ordered to pay child support often avoid their obligations. These parents are what we call dead beat parents. Most dead beat parents do not pay child support for reason just to spite the custodial parent. Some may be too lazy to get a job, others may be too selfish to dish out the money to pay for their responsibilities. Who know why some parent will not take the responsibilities of paying their child support dues? Fortunately, there are laws which prosecutes parents who avoid paying child support. In most states in America you can find a child support enforcement office which will provide assistances in enforcing non-custodial parents to pay past due child support. Some methods of enforcing child support laws are garnishment of the wages, interception of tax refund checks, suspensions of drivers license, and jail time.
When a mother has a child and she is married, then the father is legally obligated to pay child support if they divorce. When a mother has a child outside of marriage in order for her to file for child support she must first establish paternity. Establishing paternity makes the non-custodial father legally obligated to the responsibilities of child support. If at anytime the alleged father doubts that the child is his, a genetic test would be performed to discover once and for all who the father is. Locating a missing parent can be difficult, especially if they live in another state. Sometimes tracking the social security number of the missing parent will help to pin point their location. Usually when the missing parent applies for a new job, their social security can be trace back to their location. In order to establish paternity, the custodial parent must first locate the father.

Homeschooling online
February 7th, 2010If Johnny is fascinated by the blinking cursor and struggles to
master the movements of the mouse, you may want to look into some
of the recent developments in homeschooling techniques. Gone are
the days when parents had to buy material from vendors and then
pass it on to their children with explanations. Today, you get the
full course details, material and test papers online.
Children love to sit with the computer. In addition to making them
feel like an adult, the computer also makes use of the visual and
sound medium to make learning fun and easy. Streaming video and
audio show various scientific processes in great detail. The
colorful pictures and the various techniques used help to
effectively bind the data to the child’s memory.
Many online resources have a fun testing center that aims to
measure the knowledge and skill level of your child. Complicated
math and science problems are dealt with deftly and elegantly.
A visit to an e-library can also be fun, especially when there
is an audio clip that reads out the passage to you.
E-learning has just begun to revolutionize the world of studies.
If harnessed properly, a child can assimilate an astonishing
amount of information from that great resource sitting right there
at your table – your P.C.

What Are Good Anger Management Ideas For Children?
February 7th, 2010A calm house is a happy house. Both parents are going to argue and have their differences, however they need to be adult enough to wait to discuss their issues once the kids have gone out or are in bed.
We are a very busy household where both parents work; I help people to stop stuttering by running speech courses which are one a one-to-one basis and my partner runs a company which offers bargain holiday deals as well as enabling people to learn how to become a foster parent.
I am also a parent and am by no means a perfect dad. I have told my children that all I expect of them is to try their best, as long as they do this, it does not matter what grades they achieve. Two years ago my step-daughter who is now twelve started to play up, especially at school. I was quite shocked when I attended her parents evening to find out that she had not handed in her homework, that she had made little effort in the past couple of terms and that she had been disruptive to other members of her class.
I was rather annoyed and that is to put it politely. I was very angry, however told her that I did not want to speak about it until we arrived home. When we had arrived home, I stated to her that I was upset about what I had heard and informed her that if she had done well, I would have bought her anything that she wanted, up to a certain amount of money. There was a brief hesitation of perhaps shock before she stated; so you would even by me the England footie kit? I said that I would have but that she was not having it now. There was an add on to it though; something which I hoped would inspire her to start working hard – that was that she would be able to buy it in a few months time if she bucked her ideas up.
She has never looked back since, but my bank manager is not happy with the situation. I have also introduced a weekly bribe. I have agreed with both of the kids that I will buy them something each – up to the value of £15 during the weekend if they are good within the week. If and it often happens they do not deserve the toy, I have no need to become angry as they just do not get the reward. As you will no doubt imagine this is something which makes them hugely frustrated however it is something that also teaches them a valueable lesson in life.
Some would no doubt say that this is some sort of cop out however it is working very nicely in my house thank you very much.
